Per day, per hour, monthly or by task: which one to choose

See how each pay type on a team member's profile feeds into payroll: per day, per hour, monthly or by task.

For managers6 steps
  1. Step 1: Where to choose

On the team member's profile, under Employment and Role, the Payment field has four options: Per Day, Monthly, By Task and Per Hour. The Base Value is the day rate, the monthly salary, the agreed price or the hourly rate, depending on the option. Employment is for your records only: it doesn't change the payroll math.

  2. Step 2: Per Day

For people paid by the day. Payroll adds up the days checked in the period's daily reports: Full Day counts as one day and Half Day as half. Each day is paid at the rate on the profile when that report was made, so changing the Base Value applies to future reports. A day with no report isn't counted.

  3. Step 3: Per Hour

For people paid by the hour. In the daily report, the person starts at 8 hours and you adjust the hours each day. Payroll multiplies the hours in each report by that day's hourly rate.

  4. Step 4: Monthly

For people on a fixed salary. Payroll pays the share of the salary that falls in the period: a full month is one salary, and part of a month is the matching share of days. Each absence marked in a daily report takes off 1/30 of the salary (a simple calculation, the same in every country, not the rule of any country's employment law); a day with no report isn't an absence. The math uses the current Base Value on the profile.

  5. Step 5: By Task

For a job with an agreed price. The Base Value is that price. The person shows up in the project's payroll when they're checked in a daily report for the period, and payroll subtracts the advances already paid to them on that project, including earlier periods, to show what's left.

  6. Step 6: Which one to choose

    • Per Day: day labourers paid for the days they work
    • Per Hour: people paid hourly, with hours that change from day to day
    • Monthly: a fixed salary, with absences deducted
    • By Task: a job with an agreed price, paid in advances
